I highly recommend this blog. It provides wonderful information through tutorials and contests. Nick is a cool guy and is always encouraging people to create and be the best they can be. In some of my previous posts you can see that I participated in a couple of his 5 Second Projects. They provide you with an opportunity to work on a project that you don’t have to spend too much time on, but you have that direction you need when trying to build your skills and come up with projects for your demo reel.

This is my entry for the GreyscaleGorilla contest, “Old Video Games”. I wanted to combine different games.

I created all the images in Adobe Illustrator and then animated in Adobe After Effects.

GreyscaleGorilla “Kick The Bucket” Entry

I wanted to get back into using After Effects. I haven’t used it since high school. So I entered this 5 second contest over at the GreyscaleGorilla blog. It’s very simple.

My original plan was to have the “white” Michael Jackson moonwalk into a bucket of water and knock it over. The water would spill and the “black” Michael Jackson would enter, slip and die. Because of recent events (Michael Jackson’s passing), I obviously couldn’t continue with that plan. So as not to discard all my work, I changed it up and here it is.

I guess I’ll actually start using the blog part and update you guys with my project updates. My brain is so scattered, you never know what I will be working on. Right now I’m trying to finish this 3D model of Lil Wayne. I have the face and the fitted hat done. I don’t want to model the dreads until I have his body so I’m working on that right now.

Here is the finished face and hat and the body so far:

Now that I’m posting this maybe I can finally combine the face because I think I’m going to start the dreads separate from the head.

I know that the body has much left to be desired (especially the gluteus maximus), but obviously I’m not done. And I’m not worried about the legs too much since they are going to be under jeans and the feet are going to be in shoes. I’ll keep you up-to-date with progress.
